Apparently in many parts of the UK, homes that face each other at the rear are required to be built 21 metres apart, and you'll never guess the reason why this rule exists.



I did a tree safety course a little while ago, and the instructor told the class that the legally required clearance for trees overhanging a public right-of-way was determined by: the height of a gentleman carrying a child sitting on his shoulders, where the child is wearing a top hat.


@smbsy @fabriek @Alexis You don't want your child's top hat to get caught on a tree branch, they won't stop crying the whole way home, trust me.
